PROJET DE TISSAGE

BURKINA FASO

projet de tissage
The ‘Projet de Tissage Burkina Faso’ is a CDE-UPROTEX pilot project involving nearly 500 people, from growers and dyers to weavers, including their families.

The ‘Projet de Tissage Burkina Faso’ is the first stage in a long-term programme to document, preserve and rejuvenate these skills in a manner reflecting their socioeconomic and cultural significance for the nation, and to provide the practitioners with the financial remuneration appropriate to the excellence of their work.

THE EXHIBITION ’DAN FANI – TREASURES OF BURKINA FASO’S TEXTILE HERITAGE’, under the patronage of and sponsored by SOS-SAVE OUR SKILLS, is dedicated to drawing attention to the grave economic plight of people whose superior manual skills and unique artistic heritage are amongst the greatest assets of their country.

The exhibition opens Saturday, May 19th 2007 for three days in the Atrium of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, 655 West 34th Street, New York. (view location)
